June is just around the corner and in 2023 there will again be several changes that will affect the citizens of the Federal Republic of Germany. These include a culture pass, a new EU law on railway rights, a construction subsidy programme, the Corona warning app and updates that will be omitted. In addition, the first branches of a large department store in Germany are closing down and fighter jets are flying through the sky. HEIDELBERG24 reports on what exactly is in store for us.

Changes in June 2023: What's in store for consumers

It will start in June 2023 with a new funding program that will replace the Baukindergeld. Until now, the state had given a subsidy to families who wanted to buy or build property. Thanks to the new "Home Ownership for Families" (WEF) funding programme, families with low to medium incomes no longer receive a subsidy, but a KfW subsidy that is staggered according to annual income.

In order to get the loan from the KfW Bank, the family has to live in the property themselves. It must also be a new building or initial purchase. Anyone with an annual income of more than 60,000 euros cannot receive the subsidy.

Kulturpass and branch closures: These changes will take place in June 2023

In mid-June, the Kulturpass for 18-year-olds will be introduced in Germany. This allows young citizens to participate in registered events. In return, they receive a budget of 200 euros for a period of two years. This is intended to support providers of events such as concerts, theatre performances and cinema screenings. They had been severely shaken in recent years by the Corona pandemic and rising inflation.

Galeria Karstadt Kaufhof has also had financial problems for years and is currently in insolvency proceedings. In this context, several branches of the traditional company have to be closed! As early as June 30, 19 stores will close. On January 31, 2024, further stores throughout Germany will follow. These Galeria Karstadt Kaufhof locations are affected by the closure.

Changes in June 2023: New rights for rail customers and a NATO maneuver

From 7 June, there will also be some changes for rail customers. Because on this day, a new EU law will come into force that deals with rights for travelers. In the future, companies such as Deutsche Bahn will no longer have to pay for delays and cancellations if reasons such as force power or the behaviour of third parties are to blame. In addition, it is about rebookings and paid hotel stays.

Not a big change, but at least a special feature in June is the NATO maneuver in Germany. As part of "Air Defender 23", numerous fighter jets and other aircraft will make the airspace unsafe. This is intended to test how quickly fighter aircraft can be made operational in an emergency. As a result of the NATO exercise, there will be disruptions in travel air traffic, so that flight cancellations could occur.

Corona-Warn-App goes into sleep mode - these changes will be available in June 2023

During the Corona pandemic, the Corona-Warn-App has been an important means of tracing contacts of infected people. However, this is no longer necessary, so that the era of the app will come to an end on June 30th. Although it is not deleted, it is put into sleep mode. However, vaccination certificates remain visible.

On June 10, Microsoft will end support for users of Windows 13 10H21, which could make numerous devices more vulnerable to hackers or bugs. If you are still using this version, you should rather switch to one of the newer ones. (ie)
