The Jerusalem Jazz Festival is underway. The festival, created by the Israel Festival, will open on June 27 at the Israel Museum.
The artistic director of the festival, Avishai Cohen, chose to dedicate it this year to the world of contemporary jazz, in which musicians from Israel and around the world will take to stages throughout the gardens and galleries. "This year we allowed ourselves to go too far, and our dream became a reality. Amazing artists come from all over the world: Mali, Senegal, Morocco, Spain, Italy, Thailand, USA and of course Israel. Together they create a fascinating artistic fabric and a musical experience that I believe will be unforgettable," he says.
As is tradition, part of the artistic program will remain confidential, and during the festival there will be surprise performances: collaborations between artists, original productions, spontaneous jams and more.
Among the most intriguing performances this year is the salute to Beat Generation poets, who will combine Beat Generation poetry with original musical interpretation. The show will be held in cooperation with "A Place for Singing", and will feature Uzi Ramirez, Carolina, Gilad Meiri, Noam Shuster Eliassi and more.

"The ninth Jazz Festival in Jerusalem is taking place against the backdrop of the political and social crisis taking place in Israel in recent months, and I hope that the gathering of all of us around fine music and spectacular art will enable a moment of togetherness that will be the chord to change from which, like jazz itself, we will improvise a new embracing reality," says Eyal Sher, the festival's CEO.
