Whether you are a hobby or a professional chef, with just a few ingredients you can create a perfectly balanced dish that inspires everyone. Which one exactly, is revealed here.

Hand on heart: Who hasn't cooked something that just didn't taste good? Or at least not as good as in your own imagination? Although the recipe has been adhered to exactly, ingredient quantities and work steps have been followed precisely according to the instructions - that certain something is missing. But what is this "certain something" that makes us float to culinary heights while enjoying it and that we just can't get enough of? If professional chefs are to be believed, there are exactly three ingredients that, perfectly dosed, make every dish better.

Whether savory or sweet, these three ingredients enhance any dish

There are three simple ingredients that can take the taste of almost any food to a new level. Provided that they are correctly dosed and matched to each other. After all, overconsumption can not only have the opposite effect of the desired goal (it just doesn't taste good), but also lead to health problems. The saying "The dose makes the poison", which was derived from a quote from the Austrian physician Paracelsus, hits the nail on the head here.

1. Salt – a pinch of flavor

In the past, salt was considered the white gold and was traded as such. Cultures that possessed salt and were able to mine it in large quantities are bursting with money and power. Because salt was and still is vital and everyone should consume six grams of salt a day to meet their salt needs. Due to industrialization, salt is now a cheap mass product and the food industry uses salt as a cheap flavor enhancer. By eating highly processed foods, many of us consume more than the amount of salt we need each day, which can increase blood pressure and the risk of stomach cancer. Therefore, salt should be used sparingly, because a pinch of salt can enhance the flavor of vegetables, make the meat more tender and emphasize the sweet contrast in a chocolate dessert.

A good portion of salt is used for fish in salt crust. Don't worry, you don't have to worry about a salty fish, because the salt-protein shell serves as a cooking oven and not for seasoning.

2. Sugar – the sweet seduction

Beware of confusion, because sugar can also be confused with salt! If you reach into the right storage jar, sugar will put a smile on your face with every bite, because sugar is not only sweet, but also a flavor enhancer. The human body is naturally attuned to sugary foods, which can lead to a craving for them. Professional chefs know and use this trick. A touch of sugar, for example, balances the acidity of tomato sauce, and a generous portion of it adds the delicious sweetness to cakes and desserts. Sugar is simply irresistible, but again, the right amount is crucial.
Consciously avoiding sugar can have positive effects on mental and physical health. Simply Tasty editor Eva took on the No-Added-Sugar Challenge and reports on how she fared after 40 days sugar-free.

3. Butter – the golden yellow happiness

A little butter belongs not only in fish, but also in any other dish. Butter is like a gentle melt that covers food and caresses our taste buds. It gives sauces a creamy texture, refines pastries and gives vegetables a heavenly shine.
Butter has been on everyone's lips lately when the so-called butter board – a board that is spread with butter and topped with sweet or savoury ingredients – went viral. This is too much of a good thing even for Einfach Tasty, so we tried a lighter version, a cream cheese board with lemon curd.

The right dosage is crucial

In the world of gastronomy, salt, sugar and butter are the real superstars. They have the ability to transform simple ingredients into magical masterpieces. You can also take advantage of this knowledge as a hobby chef. It is important to remember that salt, sugar and butter should be used wisely to improve the flavor of the individual dish, but not to overwhelm it. A dish that's too salty can numb the tongue, too much sugar can spoil the enjoyment, and too much butter can put a strain on our hips. So enjoy this tempting triple combination, but with moderation and purpose.
