Another remake? Prime Video is currently filming, in Australia, a new remake of the series "The Office", initially created by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, reports Deadline, as noted by BFM TV on its website. It is a woman who will interpret the main character.
Originally British, "The Office" had already been covered across the Atlantic by American directors Steve Carell and John Kraksinski. Both the origin and the remake describe the daily life of office workers. If in the British version the main character is David Brent (played by Ricky Gervais, who is also co-director with Stephen Merchant), it is in the American version Michael Scott (played by Steve Carell).
If the American version is the best-known remake (it was broadcast between 2005 and 2013), there have actually already been eleven others. The Australian version would thus be the 13th version, says Deadline. In France, "The Office" was adapted by Nicolas Charlet and Bruno Lavaine for Canal +, under the French name "Le Bureau". It was broadcast on the encrypted channel in 2006.
A woman for the first time
The main character for the Australian remake, named Hannah Woward, will be a woman. He will be portrayed by Australian stand-up actress Felicity Ward. "When she learns from head office that her subsidiary is going to close and put everyone on remote work, she goes into survival mode and makes promises she can't keep to keep her work family together," Deadline summarizes. This remake will be the first with a woman in the costume of the main character.
According to Deadline, "The Office Australia" will air on Prime Video as early as 2024. "We are thrilled to bring one of the largest comedy franchises ever made to Prime Video customers in Australia and around the world," said the Asutralie platform development manager.
