There are many reasons to quit. We show seven moments when Reddit users had enough and ended their employment. How would you have acted?

Constant stress, impossible behavior of colleagues or even superiors, growing dissatisfaction – there are many reasons to quit. But employees do not always dare to take this step. After all, you can first seek a conversation or try out whether you can adapt your own behavior, for example with autogenic training or yoga.

But sometimes the last resort for many employees is dismissal. Something that, according to a study by Stepstone, four out of ten employees think about – several times a month. In some cases, this step should be taken even if no new job is certain afterwards.

One or the other employee also benefits from like-minded people. Maybe that's why user @PegBundysBonBons asked the following question on the online platform Reddit: "What happened at work that several employees subsequently quit?" Here are seven of the reasons.

Wave of layoffs after mass resignation

One user wrote: "The people in charge laid off half of the company without warning. Among the dismissed employees was a colleague who was only a few months away from retirement and had been with the employer for more than 35 years." However, what the superiors probably did not expect after this action: "The company was shocked when half of the remaining employees also submitted their resignations shortly afterwards."

Austerity measures under new management

The fact that things sometimes change under new management is the way things are and can also contribute to an improvement. However, a former employee experienced it differently and wrote: "The company owner died and his idiotic son took over the company. He immediately began to implement cost-cutting measures, such as turning off the air conditioning throughout the building." The new boss said that this was acceptable, after all, you could bring a fan from home. But that's not all, as the user continued: "The number of toilet paper rolls for the toilets has been limited and the refrigerator, microwave and water dispenser have been removed from the break room." The former employee also wrote that orders for office supplies would also have to be signed and approved by the boss in the future – which he never did: "The employees all quit within two months."

Better job offers

There were also positive answers to the question, which led to a wave of resignations. At least positive for the employees. One Reddit user wrote that a competitor offered the company's financial research team to pay them double their current salary. "About 100 to 200 people at the various locations did not show up for work the following Monday."

Nepotism after personnel change

A new deputy management caused dissatisfaction and chaos in one user's company: "She gradually turned all employees against her and hired a bunch of her friends. I think I was the third one to leave." But this probably also had consequences for the company, because: "The shop was closed within a year."

By the way, do you know the signs by which you can tell if your boss appreciates you?

Incompetent management

In general, it seems that it is precisely the behavior and skills of superiors or management that have a direct influence on employees. One answer to the question about reasons for the mass exit was: "Every time I have experienced a wave of layoffs, it has been due to poor management. As far as I know, it was never planned beforehand. There were always a number of employees who – independently – decided to quit in the same month because the management was so bad."

Unfulfilled promises

Even if trust in the management suddenly collapses, this can lead to numerous layoffs, says another user: "The company had promised us a financial bonus at the end of the year. A little later, however, there was the information that there would be no bonuses due to the low performance in the company." What was difficult about this information was that the financial year was quite successful. And the fact that the supervisor had just built a house worth millions of dollars and his brother-in-law, who happened to be a manager in the company, bought a house, did not contribute to understanding. "I quit on the spot. Many others also quit shortly thereafter."

Outrageous behavior of superiors

According to the answers to the question about incidents that led to waves of resignations, there were also some superiors who behaved outrageously. For example, a manager apparently closed the gate to the parking lot – and no employee could leave the company. The reason for this, according to the writing user, was that a quota had probably not been reached. Later, even the police and journalists joined in.

Another company bought air mattresses for its employees. But not as a gift, but so that they could stay at the company and sleep there in the high season. Both incidents were followed by the dismissals of several employees.
