The Volleyball League Serie A has ceded the title of SuperLeague to which the Callipo Vibo Valentia has renounced for "the critical issues that characterize the economic scenario of the country", to Farmitalia Saturnia Catania. This was announced by the president of the Calabrian club, Filippo Callipo.
"In this difficult and delicate moment that led us to the decision not to take part in the 2023-2024 Superleague championship - he says in a note - we want to put the passion for volleyball back at the center, which has accompanied us for thirty years achieving important results. So we decided to give up the SuperLeague title won on the field by Callipo Vibo Valentia for free, to give another team the opportunity to compete in the top men's Serie A championship. We have therefore immediately opened a constructive dialogue with the Serie A Volleyball League by submitting an application for the transfer of the sports rights of the Superleague, an instance that will be submitted in the coming days to the mandatory opinion of the Board of Directors of the League for final approval; at the same time we left in his hands the decision to identify the team that would collect our title, which happened with Farmitalia Catania".
"The common goal with the Volleyball League - continues Callipo - is to give priority and continuity to the movement, thus allowing us to keep the next SuperLega to 12 teams. We are happy to pass the baton to Farmitalia Catania, in fact a club of our beloved South, which for our part we have always tried to bring to the top, managing to compete with the most famous teams of the North. With Farmitalia we are also sure that the South will be well represented at the highest levels of men's volleyball, among other things from a historic square like that of Catania, rich in renowned volleyball traditions. The occasion therefore comes propitious to wish a big good luck to the 'tuna' to the president Luigi Pulvirenti and to the whole Sicilian team for this new adventure ".
