There are no instructions for parenting, just some tips to follow (or not). Harrison Ford himself knows something about this. At 80, the legendary actor - whose latest film, Indiana Jones 5, was screened at the Cannes Film Festival - offered rare confessions about his relationship to fatherhood, in an interview with the media Esquire on May 31. The one who shares the life of the American actress Calista Flockhart began by evoking the issue of mental health, insinuating that he "accepts [his] flaws and [his] failures", particularities that he "assumes" and which are part of him.

Among these mistakes, there is that of not having seized his role as a father... by privileging his roles on the big screen. "I thought about myself, for most of my life," he delivered with great frankness, regretting his absence with his family. "I can tell you this: if I had done less well, I would probably be a better parent." Regrets expressed even though the actor has just won a palm of honor for his entire career.

Making up for lost time

The time is probably no longer for regrets, his 5 children are now adults. First married to actress Mary Marquardt from 1964 to 1979, Harrison Ford raised Ben and Willard, 55 and 54 today. He then married American screenwriter Melissa Mathison, the couple who gave birth to Malcolm, 36, and Georgia, 33. The one who plays Han Solo in Star Wars, episode IV (1977) then adopted Liam in 2001, child of his companion Calista Flockhart with whom he rebuilt his life.

If he has missed, no doubt, several important events in the past, the star of Indiana Jones intends to be more present. As recently as Sunday, May 28, he was on his wife's arm at the graduation ceremony of Liam, 22, who has just completed his studies at Amherst University in Massachusetts. An adventurer of lost time?
