(from correspondent Cinzia Conti) (ANSA) - PESCARA, 01 JUNE - Years ago he had stirred consciences with the award-winning Waltz with Bashir (2008) on the war in Lebanon, a unique mixture of animated film and documentary.
Now, after eight long years of work, the Israeli director, screenwriter and composer Ari Folman returns with the graphic novel and animated film Anne Frank and the secret diary, and talks about it with the public and students in Pescara at the 27th edition of Cartoons On The Bay - InternationalFestival of Animation, Transmedia and Meta-Arts 2023, promoted by Rai and organized by Rai Com.
He also announces future projects to the public: an animated film about divorce from the point of view of children ("I will also talk about gibbons, among the few animals left monogamous, we are no longer monogamous either") and a "political" live action on a book by the Ukrainian writer Andrej Kurkov whose rights he bought before the war.
"My films - he says - are never planned, they have arrived. Having dealt with war as a soldier, I can say that it has nothing to do with reality, it almost seems like a dream, indeed a nightmare. In a short time, when you live in those situations, the truth disappears very quickly, a different one comes out that is processed with consciousness and subconsciousness. And to describe and try to tell all this - he adds - I do not think there is another way than animation because it allows us to talk about subconsciousness in a non-artificial way, it serves to create compassion for what happened and to seek the attention of the world".
