Room: James Thierrée's new show

It is called Room - room or space - for its ability to take us elsewhere by the grace of movement, scenery, actors, music. "I wanted to make a show that was an assumed chaos," says the director who is a mime, acrobat, dream vaulter and metaphysical magician. Anyone who has seen his shows, between circus, dance and theater knows how much dazzle they are. Who has not seen anything of James Thierrée has the chance to fill this gap. Room sails, pitches with an architect-conductor (interpreted by him) and a troupe that is racing. The pitch is useless. This kind of highly lively show is lived as an experience.

Winnie Mandela Mission: The Spy Story of the Summer

Winnie Mandela Mission by Gilbert Erouart DR

It looks like a John Le Carré novel. Except that the back cover tells us that Mission Winnie Mandela is a story based on real facts. Its author, the writer Gilbert Erouart, who was a diplomat, reveals forbidden truths. Flashback, July 1986: Guy Penne, President Mitterrand's Africa adviser, summons the author. Here he is appointed in South Africa, in the midst of the ANC's struggle against the apartheid regime, as a "liaison officer with the underground black opposition" with the mission of approaching Winnie Mandela, the wife of Nelson Mandela. What follows is a breathless tale that mixes double spies, manipulations, murderous attacks, historical figures, high-flying adventurers... Suspense throughout this book that can be read in one go.

Xavier Veilhan, solo show at the Perrotin gallery

L'Oiseau n°1, 2022 Alexandra de Cossette

We know his red rhinoceros kiss that tumbled into the hall of the Centre Pompidou, his ultraviolet carriage that caressed in the courtyard of the Palace of Versailles, his faceted sculptures that renewed statuary art. The artist, who represented the France at the 57th Venice Biennale in 2017 with his Studio Venezia, presents today Portrait Mode. The exhibition brings together a set of marquetry alongside blurred sculptures and a new series of sculptures where external objects are invited as part of his daily life: armchair by Vico Magistretti, cello by Yu lin, seat of the workshop designed by Rick Owens... When the famous faceted sculptures give way to more organic sculptures.

The New Spring of Toulouse

Matali Crasset, the Hazelnut press photo

The spring of Toulouse is getting a makeover. The festival of contemporary creation called Nouveau Printemps, has a revisited format that includes an associate artist from design, cinema, music... This first edition invites Matali Crasset to take a keen and special look at the Saint-Cyprien district. The designer, who develops an approach at the crossroads of the artistic and anthropological and questions the notion of living, explores with thirty artists and civil society actors the links between culture and culture of the living. His credo? "Artists show the way to a singular relationship with the world. A deep relationship, which lasts us a lifetime and helps us stay the course in case of big disturbances, turbulence."

Le Nouveau Printemps, from June 2 to July 2, 2023.
