As a restaurateur, I have chosen hundreds of special names for dishes on my restaurant menus. It is really art to find an interesting and stimulating name for the dish, which will be etched in the memory and make the customer want to order it. It's about marketing, and marketing is everything in life. I'm not sure the exact definition of oven-roasted vegetables is "French fries," but that's how I branded them to my kids, and that's what they call them.

Omer and Shiran Miller's new book presents the method the two developed for raising and educating children through the kitchen. The enjoyment of food and cooking that we all have from an early age is the best way, according to them, to create memories, spend time and develop children's imagination and curiosity just as much as adults.

At its core, the book is a cookbook with over 80 simple, applicable and delicious recipes. It includes patented dinner recipes, morning classics and foods the whole family loves. But this is not a classic cookbook as we have known it to this day.

It contains boxes and tips for involving children in the cooking process based on the child's desire and motor abilities, tips for developing independence in children, tips for coping with pickiness and food refusal, for incorporating more vegetables into the children's diet, for maintaining diversity and interest in cooking, and many other issues that bother most parents in Israel.

Ingredients for 8-10 servings

  • 2 large sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into sticks, 10-8 cm long and 1/<> cm thick
  • 4 large colored carrots, peeled and cut into sticks, 10-8 cm long and 1/<> cm thick
  • 2 beets, peeled and cut into sticks, 1/<> cm thick
  • 2 kohlrabs, peeled and cut into sticks, 1/<> cm thick
  • For seasoning: 4 tablespoons silan
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 teaspoons sweet paprika
  • 2 tsp. ground cumin
  • 2 tsp. garlic powder
  • 6 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Instructions:

1. Preheat the oven to 220 degrees Celsius and line an oven pan with parchment paper.

2. Mix all the seasoning ingredients in a large bowl into a uniform mixture. Add vegetable sticks and mix to a full coating.

3. Transfer the vegetables to the pan and bake for 45 minutes, until they are crispy and tasty.

The fries will be kept in the fridge for up to 3 days.
