(ANSA) - ROME, JUNE 01 - The Italian delegation of socialists and democrats is divided on the vote on the EU ammunition plan. After the rejection of the amendments calling for the use of PNR and Cohesion funds for the purchase of weapons and ammunition, the majority of the delegation, ten MEPs, including the head of the PD delegation Brando Benefei, supported the Commission's plan. Piero Bartolo, Camilla Laureti, Franco Roberti and AchilleVariati abstained. In the S&D against Massimiliano Smeriglio, who however is not from the Democratic Party. The delegation of the M5S and the Greens Piernicola Pedicini and Rosa D'Amato are against. Abstained the former M5s Giarrusso.
The Nazarene line was well illustrated by Elly Schlein: full support for Ukraine, no use of PNR funds for weapons. This, it is reiterated by dem sources regarding today's vote in the European Parliament, is the position of the secretary, who did not give voting indications, respecting the autonomy of the group.
"It's like on the ESM: we ask to ratify it, then Italy will not use it. It is no coincidence that we voted against the use of PNR funds in the European Parliament" for weapons. This was declared by the senator of the Pd Alessandro Alfieri, head of the Pnrr of the party, speaking with journalists in front of the Chamber. "Fdi and Fi instead - he adds - rejected our amendments. We ask Fitto to be very clear in saying that PNRR money goes into original projects and not military aid." (ANSA).
