Today it is a little hard to believe, but once it was allowed to smoke in certain areas on passenger planes. Since the 90s, many airlines have banned smoking on their aircraft, and since 2007 smoking has been banned on all flights under international aviation laws. But all this did not prevent a British traveler from demanding and doing so. A video documenting the incident, which went viral, shows an argument between her and one of the flight attendants. The argument arose after the woman purchased three packets (600 cigarettes) from the duty-free cart on the plane.

At the beginning of the video, the steward is heard announcing the sale of cigarettes, alcohol and tobacco. Later, the crew member is seen handing over the three packets to the passenger. At this point she asked her angrily: "So why exactly did you just sell me 600 cigarettes if I can't smoke any of them here?" When she doesn't get an answer, she continues: Come on, you just saw me, you took my money for 600 cigarettes and I can't smoke one here. Why?"

The flight attendant is not confused and replies to the passenger: "I understand what you mean, but condoms are sold at Boots, a British pharmacy chain - do I need to add anything else?" The passengers – including the angry passenger – couldn't help themselves and burst out laughing. And so, in an instant, the whole scene became much calmer and more relaxed.

"Her brain is still functioning"

The video was recently posted on Reddit, but it turns out that it has been "circulating" around the internet for some time. The video received many comments. "The steward masters the art of de-escalation," wrote one user, while another added: "This guy was so smart in making this conversation lighter. And he's funny, too." Another comment read: "I am shocked that she laughed and things returned to normal so easily. Good for her, her brain is still functioning." A fourth commenter commented, "(The idea is) to kill them with kindness. Sometimes you can vent angry people from their anger and turn an almost violent customer into a loved one." And there are those who thought that everything was done in a hurry: "I have the impression that there really is no anger there, that they were just having fun." Among the countless responses, more pearls could be found. For example: "The laughter and smile at the end show how rare and charming humans can be."

One way or another, anyone caught smoking on an airplane could face serious consequences – from a heavy fine to a criminal charge. And yes, smoking electronic cigarettes on an airplane is also considered smoking in every respect.

The Daily Star reports that despite the smoking ban, ashtrays can be found in aircraft restrooms. How can this be explained? The answer is surprising: smoking is indeed forbidden and dangerous, but airlines prefer a situation in which if someone already smokes in the bathroom illegally, it is better to throw the cigarette in the ashtray rather than in the trash, which could be flammable and cause disaster.
