Last-minute summer vacation: This year it will be really expensive

2023-06-02T06:32:20.634Z

Highlights: Summer is just around the corner and the holiday plans – if they haven't already been completed – are on the home stretch. If you haven't booked yet, you're hoping for a last-minute bargain. In recent years, this has repeatedly promised great savings if a trip was booked at the last minute. This year, this will only be possible if the highest level of flexibility is shown. And even then, there is not much savings in it due to inflation. The German Travel Association (DRV) writes with a view to spontaneous travelers: "If you want to go away in the summer, you can also go on vacation"

In the past, last-minute bookings were a guarantee for cheap travel. This is apparently over, but with a few tricks you can still save money.

Munich – Summer is just around the corner. And the holiday plans – if they haven't already been completed – are on the home stretch. The Germans' desire to travel is back. If you haven't booked yet, you're hoping for a last-minute bargain. In recent years, this has repeatedly promised great savings if a trip was booked at the last minute. This year, this will only be possible if the highest level of flexibility is shown. And even then, there is not much savings in it due to inflation.

Last-minute bargains for summer holidays 2023: Where the price-performance ratio is still right

If you book your holiday for the summer holidays at the last minute, you should be as flexible as possible when it comes to your holiday destination, hotel and flight times – but then you can certainly hope for offers that are fairly priced. Provider Alltours reports that the very high airfares of the past few weeks are declining again. "As a result, we can once again offer attractive conditions in the last-minute segment." For example, flight quotas to popular regions such as the Turkish Riviera, Mallorca and the Canary Islands have been significantly increased.

The Munich-based tour operator FTI has registered a significant increase in holiday demand, especially in the past two weeks. Hotel contingents had been increased at an early stage with foresight. "However, there may be bottlenecks in flight connections on coveted dates," says Ralph Schiller, CEO of the FTI Group. With the now high demand, the scarce supply has an impact on possible bargains.

Savings on holidays with your own travel: International airfares are currently exploding

For example, if the destination or period of the trip is not quite fixed, you will still find offers with a good price-performance ratio at a later date, says Schiller. The travel expert mentions Turkey, Egypt and Tunisia as well as holidays with self-travel. This is also due to the fact that international airfares are currently exploding.

Last-minute trips will also be available in 2023, but not at bargain prices and also with less choice - this is the assessment of Germany's largest tour operator Tui. If you are looking for attractively priced offers at Tui, you should consider the Greek island of Corfu, the Spanish mainland or the Canary Islands. Price-stable destinations are the Polish Baltic Sea coast, Albania and Morocco.

Offers yes, bargains rather no: last-minute summer vacation 2023

The German Travel Association (DRV), which represents tour operators and travel agencies, writes with a view to spontaneous travelers: "If you want to go away in the summer, you can also go on vacation. However, the choice will in all likelihood not be huge due to even lower capacities than before Corona."
