The French no longer trust the mainstream media. According to the latest edition of the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism's annual report on digital information, only 29% of our citizens believe that "information from most media is most often reliable". This is one of the lowest scores recorded in YouGov's 2022 survey across 46 countries.
This disaffection with established brands (which are generally the same online as in the written and audiovisual press) probably explains the rise of media "citizen watch" sites. In the United States, media monitoring has existed for a long time and has become professionalized, but in our old democracy, citizen monitoring is based on volunteerism and the means at hand.
