Despite intensive investigations by Pia Meyer of the Neustadt Criminal Investigation Department, there are no signs of a violent disappearance, which is why the official investigations are discontinued. However, Mara cannot accept that her sister could have voluntarily left her family. She decides to meticulously reconstruct the day Lisa was last seen. In the process, she encounters more and more inconsistencies and contradictions that drive her further to bring the truth to light.

While the police investigation is progressing slowly, Mara sets out on her own in search of answers. In the process, she comes across strange revelations about her sister, who apparently kept many secrets hidden from her family. As if that weren't enough, a corpse is discovered in a wooded area. A captivating and mysterious detective novel about two sisters and the profound question of how well we really know each other.
Lisa and Mara are two unequal sisters. Lisa is a successful doctor, has a loving marriage and has two young children. Mara is single and lives on odd jobs, she takes life as it comes. But then Lisa goes to a conference from which she does not return.

Petra Johann "The Sister": Conclusion
The central characters in this crime thriller are the sisters Lisa and Mara. The two women lead completely different lifestyles. Lisa is a doctor, while Mara lives more from odd jobs and barely keeps her head above water. One day, Lisa asks Mara to take care of her two children, as both Lisa and her husband Tim have important appointments. But suddenly, the usually reliable Lisa disappears without a trace.
The term detective novel is rather misleading. Similar to "The Bookseller", "The Sister" is a psychological thriller. So if you're expecting a cozy thriller, you're in the wrong place. This novel starts off a bit sluggish, but gains momentum and develops into a gripping story that leaves the reader with an oppressive feeling.
