Berlin – The German YouTube scene is no stranger to the drama. However, it rarely happens that two influencers really clash. Between two well-known names, the dispute could soon even have legal consequences. Streamer Shurjoka has filed a complaint against KuchenTV. The Reaction YouTuber is now accused of character assassination and defamation. How the ad came about and how KuchenTV reacts to it, we explain here.

Shurjoka vs. KuchenTV: Months-long dispute culminates in advertisement for the time being

What happened? Shurjoka and KuchenTV are influencers who are both criticized from time to time. Pia "Shurjoka" Scholz often advocates for LGBTQ+ rights, against violence against women and against fascist or right-wing ideas. In the eyes of some, however, it sometimes goes overboard, as when Shurjoka called Hagrid a disgusting person. Some streamers also consider Shurjoka's award at the German Computer Games Award to be unjustified. This also includes KuchenTV.

The Reaction YouTuber himself has repeatedly received harsh criticism from various directions. As early as 2016, Tim "KuchenTV" Heldt was convicted of incitement to hatred, and in recent years KuchenTV has also taken on other streamers such as Scurrows and caused an uproar with controversial posts about Ukraine.

Since the beginning of the year, KuchenTV has finally made Shurjoka the target of various videos on YouTube. In addition to the German Computer Game Award, it was also about allegations of double standards after the accusations against the YouTuber Vlesk.

In a livestream on Twitch lasting several hours, Shurjoka recently commented in detail on KuchenTV's videos. Since his videos, she has received more insults and hostility on the Internet, she explained. Threats of violence have also occurred against her in private messages and tweets. In addition, he is said to have claimed that she was extremist and attributed other problematic statements to her.

In the course of the stream, she finally announced that she had filed a complaint against the YouTuber: "I decided for myself because I don't know how to help myself anymore and because I can't get out of the situation any other way." (In the stream embedded above from 01:00:40)

Shurjoka vs. KuchenTV: This is how both influencers justify their situation

This is how Shurjoka justifies the complaint: The fact that she wants to take legal action against KuchenTV, explains Shurjoka, has not only to do with the YouTuber's critical videos. In their eyes, the increased emergence of hate messages would also fall back on Tim Heldt. On Twitter, Shurjoka has written a detailed thread in which she further explained her approach. Actually, she would not have wanted to make the ad public. However, since some content creators would make criminal charges part of their content plan, she wanted to speak out first before words were put into her mouth, Shurjoka continued.

This is how KuchenTV reacts: The accused YouTuber did not miss the opportunity to react directly to the ad on YouTube. In his news format Cake News, he took a stand for the first time and said that the situation was "ridiculous". KuchenTV suggested that Shurjoka had not contacted him to ask him to stop his videos. He said that Scholz had not made an effort to talk to him, but had resorted directly to the extreme means.

In the meantime, KuchenTV has also posted a longer video in which he sheds light on Shurjoka's statements in detail. He thinks a warning against him would be pointless, after a lawsuit he can continue to make videos about her, even if without being allowed to use certain words. He also clarifies that he would objectively criticize Shurjoka's statements in his videos and rejects the accusations of defamation. At the same time, he explicitly distances himself from the threats that Shurjoka is said to have received from the community.

However, the ad is likely to continue to exist. Tim Heldt explained in the Cake News that he would look for capable lawyers in order to be prepared for a possible trial. For this, he would want to collect donations again. Otherwise, the legal fees would be too high to cover alone.
