A family quarrel degenerated to the point that an 86-year-old man drove his car and, in the driveway of the country house, hit his 54-year-old daughter, killing her. The man, Vincenzo Formica, a retired former ASL employee, was stopped by the carabinieri and taken to prison on charges of murder. The circumstances and origin of the dispute are still unclear, which, according to investigators, would be linked to family disagreements. The body of the victim, Mariangela Formica, was found lying on the internal driveway of the country house that the family owns in the hinterland of Monopoli, between the Laghezza and Tavarello districts. It is a rural area with several houses and cottages generally used for holidays. The incident took place last night around 20.00 and the carabinieri intervened after a report made to 112. As we learned, between the father and daughter there had long been disagreements related to the care of the sick mother who lives with the man.
Father and mother live in a house in the center of Monopoli near their daughter who lives in another apartment. The house of Laghezza is used for holidays. Yesterday the disagreements between father and daughter would have exploded violently at the very end of a day of celebration spent together in the family home. The house, surrounded by a large garden, is located close to other country houses typical of the area and which in this period are generally mostly uninhabited. It seems that at the center of the disagreements between father and daughter there was a disagreement on how to assist the sick mother. The quarrel would have intensified until the final tragedy because it seems that Mariangela was determined to bring her mother home to be able to take care of her better. This would have exploded the anger of the father who opposed this solution. It is not known whether other people witnessed the dispute. Mariangela has a brother who lives outside. Last night after the killing of her daughter and the arrest of her husband accused of murder, the elderly mother was left without assistance. For this reason, the social services of the Municipality of Monopoli have been activated and will take care of her at least until another solution is found. In the coming days an autopsy will be performed on the victim's body in the institute of forensic medicine of the Policlinico di Bari.
