Four Shopping Mistakes That Impoverish You (@stylehard)

In a video she shared on TikTok, a stylist revealed mistakes people usually make when shopping that cause them to spend a lot more money than they planned — and it's not just an impulsive purchase.

Israeli Meital Algranati, who was born in Istanbul and now lives in Toronto, Canada, studied fashion coordination and styling at Raisron University in Toronto - and today she is a successful stylist nicknamed Fashion Mom online. She told her viewers that she was speaking from experience, since she, too, was once a chronic shopper and fell into the same traps that impoverished her, which she now warns about.

She shared 4 tips to help you save money. The first trap, she says, causes people to buy more items to meet promotions like "2 plus 1 gift" — but they end up only buying more than they planned. "Don't get sucked into it, it's a scam. They know what they're doing," she says in the video, "You're buying a bunch of things you don't need just because you want to qualify. In the end, you just spend more. It's a waste of money."

Her second piece of advice is to avoid "fast fashion": "You're buying a bunch of things you don't appreciate at all. You're just wasting money." Instead, she urges viewers to invest in quality clothing that emphasizes their personal style. She argues that instead of buying more cheap clothes, it's best to buy quality clothes in size. Even though they're more expensive, they'll stay with you for a long time and pay off more in the long run. She concluded that there is no need to stop going to cheap stores - but it is recommended to limit shopping in them.

Her third advice is to refuse to make a store credit card to get discounts for subscribers. "Usually in these cases, you buy more to take advantage of this discount. More often, you're buying things you don't really want and definitely don't need," she said. By deliberately choosing that aligns with your true needs, you can avoid this trap.

Her fourth piece of advice concerns incentives to buy more to reach an amount that allows for free shipping, asking, is the extra expense really worth it? She said: "Is it really worth it, when it's something you definitely wouldn't buy if you weren't trying to get to the cost of free shipping?"

In the text attached to the video, she concluded: "Your shopping habits keep you poor!"

People flocked to the comments to show their support. One wrote: "I used to be a chronic buyer of fast fashion and thought it was saving me money, but now I've learned that quality clothes will last much longer and fit the body better." Allegranti replied: "I was like that too! Many years ago! I rarely buy fast fashion. Very rarely."

Another wrote: "My number one shopping rule is to only buy the item if you like it! This rule prevented me from buying things because of promotions or free deliveries." A third concluded: "My new rule is to avoid online shopping and only shop face-to-face."
