Going to the supermarket is more natural than almost anything else in our lives. In the meantime, you can get almost everything you need for your daily needs at Kaufland, Aldi, Lidl and Co. Yet every child knows that it is forbidden to steal, destroy something or commit a robbery. But many a customer - consciously or unconsciously - may have violated the first two points at one time or another. Because let's be honest: Who hasn't had a product fall off the shelf and broken in the process? In these cases, most of the time nothing happens. But some mistakes when shopping can also end with a report or a ban from the house.
Shopping in the supermarket: consumption of food is not allowed
This can be easily avoided, because the rules for supermarket shopping can be found on the pages of the regional consumer centers or at Stiftung Warentest. However, some customers seem to forget this when hunger or thirst becomes too great when shopping and consume the goods before buying.
The empty pack then lands on the checkout conveyor belt and is paid for. But this is actually not allowed, as Kaufland also confirms when asked by echo24.de: "In retail, the general rule is: The goods remain the property of the retailer until payment. In other words, strictly speaking, the consumption of food in the supermarket does not comply with the legal requirements."

But in most cases, the employees in the supermarkets turn a blind eye and let the customer get away with the misstep. The situation is similar if you simply try fruit or vegetables before buying. This makes you liable to prosecution.

It is relatively easy to work around this problem. "If the customer wants to try a special product, there is of course also the possibility to do so. In this case, our employees will be happy to help and are available on site as contact persons," emphasizes Kaufland.
In addition, Kaufland regularly offers the opportunity to try new products or provides tasting plates with cheese or sausage at the fresh food counters as part of special promotions. "Unfortunately, due to the current Corona situation, we are currently unable to hold tastings in our stores," explains Kaufland.

But tasting food is not the only faux pas that customers can make in the supermarket. You often see people leafing through newspapers, which are then put back again. This, too, is not desirable at Kaufland: "The satisfaction of our customers is our top priority. Since we want to offer impeccable products to all customers, we ask them to read newspapers and magazines only after purchase. This way, every customer can be sure that they are buying an original, unread product."
However, in principle, it is not forbidden to read the newspaper in the supermarket. On the contrary, it even falls under testing. Unless the prohibition is so stipulated in the domiciliary right. But food and newspapers are not the only products that customers try or "test" in the supermarket.
