After months of darkness, the race to the metaverse is reignited, the new virtual world overwhelmed by the progress of artificial intelligence. A few days before Apple's developer conference, which will be held on June 5 when the Cupertino headsets are scheduled to launch, Meta discovers the cards of its new device for augmented and virtual reality. And with timing also comes the Chinese company Opp0.

It was Mark Zuckerberg himself, from his social profiles, to post more details about Meta Quest 3, the new generation mixed reality viewer (augmented and virtual) that will be available in the fall. "It's the first high-resolution color mixed reality headset that's 40% thinner and more comfortable, and has a better display and resolution. It has a next-generation Qualcomm chipset with doubled graphics performance and our most powerful headphones ever," Zuckerberg writes, who gives an appointment at the Connect conference on September 27th, where more details will be given.

The price of Meta's device will be around $500, while Apple's is expected to have a higher price. According to rumors circulated in recent weeks, the device with which Cupertino gets back into the game will be called RealityPro, will have a curved and thin design and should position itself on the market as an innovative object for video games. Even the Chinese company Oppo has taken the field in the last hours. It has launched the Mr Glass Developer Edition that promise both virtual and augmented reality experiences, mixed in fact, thanks to a system of video cameras that are able to open the surrounding scenario to allow the wearer of the viewers not to lose track of what is around, superimposing digital content on the real environment. Mr Glass is based on Qualcomm's Snapdragon Xr2 Plus platform and does not need to be hooked to a computer to work.

These devices, in addition to representing a hardware novelty that according to some forecasts in the future could replace smartphones, open up even more to the vast economy of apps and developers, an important business for technology companies and not only. Just to give an example, Apple's App store launched in 2008 by Steve Jobs, in 2022 generated sales of 1,100 billion dollars worldwide. In 15 years of activity, it has distributed 320 billion dollars in revenues to developers around the world and today has 1.8 billion apps.
