New at the "Shmuel Harofeh" Hospital in Be'er Yaakov: A rehabilitation system that will include two departments with 72 beds, equipped with innovative and sophisticated equipment. The new system will provide ambulatory rehabilitation services to the general public aged 18 and over in situations of illness or injury. In addition, the center will serve as a complementary therapeutic arm for hospitalized patients.

The new rehabilitation system covers an area of about 6,000 square meters and will be staffed, according to the hospital, with the best professionals in the field of rehabilitation and will be able to provide an immediate response to many patients, who currently have to wait a long time for rehabilitation treatment.

Shmuel Harofeh Hospital has over 300 beds and specializes in treating acute diseases, similar to a general hospital, but it is mainly aimed at treating the elderly population aged 65 and over in a variety of areas, such as hospitalization in internal medicine departments, rehabilitation of ventilators and more. The hospital operates imaging and laboratory services, as well as extensive outpatient clinics, which offer, among other things, geriatric evaluation.

The inauguration ceremony of the new department was attended by senior Ministry of Health executives, headed by Director General Moshe Bar Siman Tov, who said: "The rehabilitation system is especially important in geriatric hospitals in order to return patients to functioning, as much as possible, and to full life. We worked to bring a budget to implement these necessary changes in order to treat infrastructure in the field of active geriatrics, and especially rehabilitation, in order to maintain the quality of rehabilitation treatments for the elderly. In addition, we are working to open additional similar departments throughout the country while providing an incentive to operate them. We see supreme value in providing a response to the elderly population, while paying attention not only to their health but also to their quality of life."

President Chaim Herzog sent a videotaped greeting in which he said: "Samuel Harofeh Hospital has been operating for seven decades and places the patient at the heart of the work with dedication and sensitivity. The new rehabilitation system that the hospital inaugurated today is an important opportunity for a quantum leap in the range of services. Realizing the purpose of the rehabilitation effort while adapting it to each patient often succeeds in creating real wonders and ensuring the patient more good years of quality of life for both the patient and his family.
