Both owl and eagle owl have different meanings as symbols, depending on the region. In different cultures, owls are interpreted differently: they can either be considered ominous night birds that announce bad luck, or they symbolize wisdom and bring good luck to people. The eagle owl did not enjoy much popularity in times gone by. The largest domestic species of owl was not viewed favorably. Due to its nocturnal lifestyle, the eagle owl was considered a bird of the underworld, associated with mourning and death. Its appearance was interpreted as an omen for war, famine, disease and death.
