The question of salary is important for many applicants and the answer can be decisive. But some jobs are hardly on the radar of job seekers, as a recent ranking shows.
Currently, the job market for applicants is rosy. There is a shortage of suitable talent in many places and the number of vacancies in companies is still at an all-time high, according to Handelsblatt. This is despite the fact that some companies are now introducing austerity programs and cutting jobs.
The job portal Indeed evaluated the annual salary of various jobs for the Handelsblatt and listed in which industries the earning potential is greatest. The top positions here are occupied by physicians, who generally have good prospects not only for employment, but also for good salaries. But other professions are also doing well.
High salaries with little competition – where you can earn well
Indeed's analysts audited over a three-month period to determine how strong the competition for a particular job profile was and compared the clicks with other job ads on the job portal. A larger difference between the number of clicks indicated fewer competitors.
In the top positions, job offers for doctors, specialists from the technology sector and the construction industry are piling up. Annina Hering, labor market expert at Indeed, is not surprised by this development. In an interview with Handelsblatt, she explained: "Despite the macroeconomic challenges, talents in these segments continue to have the very best chances of finding employment and also being paid very well."

Expert says the labor market is "robust and strong"
Annina Hering is currently observing an overall "very robust and strong" labor market. According to her observations, there are still more than 50 percent more job openings at Indeed than before the pandemic. One million new jobs are added every month. This means that the opportunities are currently exceptionally good in all areas.

Among the top job profiles with the least interest in applicants, there are some for which the barriers to entry are high, such as the profession of doctor or lawyer. However, there are profiles that allow a lateral entry just as well as the sales consultant. This profession enables an entry from the sales sector. The annual salary is 66,000 euros.

Would you like a higher salary? A job change can be worthwhile
According to Handelsblatt, Indeed generally recommends that candidates actively look around the job market – even away from specific job profiles. Especially if you imagine a higher salary. According to the expert Hering, a job change is "still one of the best ways to make a significant jump in salary." Given the current high inflation, she is sure that many well-educated talents are thinking about changing their current job. This is especially true if the competition for the positions is low and the effort for applications therefore remains manageable.
