A fragrance contains an ingredient that is banned in the EU. The product has been recalled. The background to this is a risk to health.
Munich – Perfume fans beware: A scented water has been recalled due to an existing health hazard. Specifically affected by the recall is a cologne of the TARIS brand, as Akar GmbH informed in a press release. There is a ban on the fragrance contained in the European Union (EU).
Perfume recall: Do not use cologne – prohibited ingredient
Consumers should no longer use TARIS ZEYTIN CICEGI KOLONYASI fragrance water. The product with the best-before date 09.12.2024 and the batch number U.K.70 is affected by this recommendation. According to the press release, the fragrance butylphenyl methylpropional was detected in the product. The substance is also referred to by the name "Lilial".

In the press release, the company informs: "This fragrance is on the list of substances prohibited in cosmetic products. Cosmetic products containing butylphenyl methylpropional shall not be made available on the Union market.'; Since March 1, 2022, cosmetics containing the fragrance may no longer be sold in the EU. According to the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA), the substance can impair fertility and is also suspected of harming the unborn child. In addition, it can cause allergic skin reactions.
Recall of fragrance water: Three federal states affected
According to the Federal Office of Consumer Protection and Food Safety, the product was sold in three federal states in Germany. Accordingly, the following are affected by the recall:
- Bavaria
- Berlin
- Baden-Württemberg
Product recall: Refund on return even without receipt
Customers who have purchased the product can return it. The purchase price will be reimbursed - even without the submission of an invoice, as the company announced.
