Samantha Elizabeth, a new mom, shares an emotional moment of her newborn with her online community and goes viral on TikTok in the process.
Usually, babies take some time to get used to life outside the womb. While some even need time to open their eyes, a particularly active baby is currently causing astonished reactions from Internet users. On what appears to be a new TikTok account, mother Samantha Elizabeth shared footage of her newborn, which she captioned with the following words:

In the clip, the baby named Nyilah Daise can be seen on a changing table. The three-day-old baby tries to raise his head and succeeds. The child also crawls a little. In addition, in the caption of the video, the mother explained that the infant is only three days old.

The TikTok video has 41 million views and 55,000 comments. Many viewers were completely amazed at what they saw. Some were worried about the baby, writing: "Show it to the doctors, something might be wrong" and "What kind of baby is this?". Others opined that "pandemic babies are built differently" and "babies are a different race today."
However, many of the comments point to a fundamental, common reason for the remarkable shots: the reflexes of newborn babies.
This is what doctors say about the behavior of the baby
"What this baby is doing is quite normal," explains Dr. Karan Raj in a TikTok video of his own. "Tiny humans are pre-programmed to survive with certain software updates," he adds, noting, "One of those built-in features is the crawling reflex or chest crawl."

"Basically, the baby is hungry and looking for a free breast," Dr. Raj continues: "When you put a baby on the mother's belly, it crawls like a tracker to the milk source and clings to the breast. That's dedication."
According to Dr. Raj, the crawling reflex usually occurs around the sixth week and then disappears again. However, it can be easily overlooked. "Many newborns are swaddled and wrapped like pancakes, so many people will not be able to witness this Baby Olympics.

Dr. Raj points out that babies are not only "programmed" to look for a free breast, but that there are many other reflexes with which they are born. These include the grasping reflex, in which stroking a baby's palm causes them to close their fingers to grasp.
When do babies start crawling and raise their heads?
Usually, babies start raising their heads between two and four months. In the first weeks of life, babies are not yet able to hold it on their own and need support to keep it upright. Over time, however, their neck muscles and sense of balance will strengthen, allowing them to gradually hold their head better.
Crawling usually occurs between the sixth and tenth month of life. However, the exact time may vary from baby to baby. First, the little ones begin to roll over on their stomachs, and then crawl on their hands and knees. Eventually, they develop the ability to crawl forward with their hands and knees before finally moving on to classic quadruped crawling.
