Only the official status for the lifting of the appointment of Paolo Maldini and Frederic Massara as director of the technical area and sporting director of Milan would be missing. In the past few hours, after the meeting in the morning with Gerry Cardinale, a significant distance had emerged between the number one of RedBird and the two executives. Distance that not only has not been bridged but that, in the evening, seems to have become impossible to repair.
The separation between Milan and Maldini would arise from differences in the plans for the new course and for next season in particular. RedBird evidently was not satisfied with both the trend of the season, with a fifth place transformed into fourth only by the penalty suffered by Juventus, and the summer investments, with Charles De Ketelaere and Divock Origi symbols of choices that did not give results on the field.
A footballer's flag, Maldini returned to Milan in the summer of 2018, nine years after his retirement, taking on the role of director of strategic development in the sports area. In 2019, after Leonardo's resignation, Maldini became the head of the technical area. Together with Massara, Maldini built the team that won the Scudetto in the 2021-2022 season, bringing the Italian flag back to San Siro after 11 years and thus winning his first trophy as a manager.
