The German government on Tuesday called for measures to protect Rammstein's female audience after accusations of sexual assault against the metal band's singer. "Young people in particular must be better protected against attacks," German Family Minister Lisa Paus told AFP as Rammstein, one of Europe's best-known metal bands, toured the continent.
In particular, the Minister proposes the establishment of protection zones for women during concerts as well as teams likely to intervene in the event of sexual assault. It is necessary to discuss "quickly and concretely" protective measures, asks the minister, for whom "a serious debate on the responsibility of artists and organizers vis-à-vis their fans would be useful".
The singer of the group, Till Lindemann, is accused by several women of sexual assault, reported in recent days the channel NDR and the daily Süddeutsche Zeitung. In particular, he is suspected of choosing in the front rows of the group's concerts young women who are then invited backstage for post-concert parties. Two of the women claim to have suffered non-consensual sexual acts after being drugged at these parties, which the group has denied. Four sold-out concerts are planned this week at Munich's Olympic Stadium. The area just in front of the "Row Zero" stage in which the singer allegedly spotted the young women will be removed. "The organizer informed us yesterday that there will be no Row Zero or Aftershow Party here at home," Tobias Kohler, spokesman for the stadium where the band will perform for its big shows, told AFP. The group, founded in 1994 and experienced in provocations in its clips, will perform in the coming weeks in France, Italy, Switzerland or Sweden, Belgium, the Netherlands, Poland and Austria.
