This is the next chapter in a story that has been going on for several years. The trial of 24-year-old American rapper YNW Melly, whose real name is Jamell Maurice Demons, began on June 5 after being repeatedly postponed. The artist from Florida (United States) and protégé of Kanye West is accused of a double murder.
The facts date back to 2018: the rapper and three of his associates, Cortlen Henry (YNW Bortlen), Christopher Thomas Jr. (YNW Juvy) and Anthony Williams (YNW SakChaser) are in a car. The last two, aged 20 and 21 respectively, were shot dead. The other two transported them to the hospital in Miramar, stating that they had been victims of a drive-by, a shooting from another car.
But an investigation shows that it would only be the make-up of a murder operated by Jamell Demons, with Cortlen Henry as an accomplice.
The rapper is then incarcerated in the prison of Broward County, Florida, one of the states that still applies the death penalty... And whose governor, Ron DeSantis, even changed the law last April. From now on, the unanimity of the 12 jurors is no longer required to decree the death penalty, a minimum of 8 votes is sufficient. A decision that could bring the rapper closer to a death penalty.
