"Golda," the much-talked-about film by Oscar-winning Israeli director Guy Nativ, starring acclaimed British actress Helen Mirren, was chosen to open the 40th edition of the Jerusalem Film Festival. The festival will close with a screening of "Anatomy of a Fall" by French director Justine Terrier, who won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival two weeks ago.
"Golda," which had its world premiere at the last Berlin Film Festival, takes place during the Yom Kippur War and follows several days in the life of Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir.

Alongside Oscar winner Mirren ("The Queen"), who plays Meir with a thick veil of makeup, live Schreiber as US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, Camille Cotten ("10 percent") as Golda's personal assistant, Lior Ashkenazi as IDF Chief of Staff David ("Dado") Elazar, Rami Heuberger as Defense Minister Moshe Dayan, Dvir Benedek as Director of Military Intelligence Eli Zeira, Rotem Keinan as Mossad Director Zvi Zamir, and Ohad Knoller as Ariel Sharon, then commander of the 143rd Division.
Director Guy Nativ, who has been active in the United States for a long time, is responsible for, among other things, the films "Strangers", "Flood" and "Son of God". His 2014 film Skin won him the Academy Award for Best Short Film.
This year, the Jerusalem Film Festival will take place between July 13 and 23. As every year, the festival will present a rich and comprehensive artistic program, which includes more than 200 films from 50 countries and dozens of festive premieres of the most prominent Israeli films of the year, as well as spoken films that have won leading festivals around the world, including Berlin, Cannes, Venice and Sundance.
