Alison spends a dream vacation under the Caribbean sun with her parents and little sister Claire. As a young student, she took the opportunity to turn a few heads among other holidaymakers and the staff of the hotel where the family was staying. This enchanted parenthesis will also sign her last days, since the body of the young woman will be found lifeless.
Twenty years later, Claire, who now calls herself Emily, stumbles upon one of the men suspected of killing her sister before her death was declared accidental. Having never believed this version, she will then embark on her own investigation to find out what really happened to Alison.
The series "Saint X", put online this Wednesday, June 7 on Disney +, follows the heroines by going back and forth in the past and present. In this fiction adapted from the novel "Un si joli nulle part", by author Alexis Schaitkin (Ed. Pocket), we discover the events of the week of family and sunny holidays over the eight parts, in parallel with the investigations conducted by the girl who has become an adult.
A real brainstorming for the viewer
The victim is played by West Duchovny, the daughter of actors David Duchovny and Téa Leoni, who has already appeared a handful of times on the small and big screen, but who plays one of the main roles here. She perfectly embodies the freshness of youth as well as the doubts and questions specific to adolescence. Alycia Debnam-Carey plays Emily/Claire in New York. She had already been seen in the series "The 100" and "Fear The Walking Dead". Marked for life by the drama of his childhood, his character of a sensitivity to the skin arouses a beautiful empathy.
Beyond this convincing female duo, the fate of Clive Richardson, nicknamed Gogo, hotel employee and suspect in Alison's death, fascinates. The actor Josh Bonzie delivers a performance all in interiority, punctuated by some instinctive flashes, which is overwhelming.
Without revolutionizing the genre of the thriller guided by the question "who is the culprit?", "Saint X" succeeds in his bet by constantly expanding the list of potential murderers. A real brainstorming for the spectator who does not lack surprises or twists.
"Saint X", American series by Leila Gerstein (2023) with West Duchovny, Alycia Debnam-Carey, Josh Bonzie... Eight episodes of 42 to 54 minutes each.
