(ANSA) - LUXEMBOURG, JUNE 08 - "Almost three years have passed since the presentation of my proposal, it was a marathon, now we have 100 meters still to go, we are close to finding an agreement: I expect that the Member States will be able to complete these few meters". This was stated by Home Affairs Commissioner Ylva Johansson when she arrived at the Council in Luxembourg. "It is important to stress that the agreement is not a game between losers and winners, a zero-sum game: when we act together we are very strong, but if we are not united we are all losers because no one can manage migration alone."
"I am sure that today we will find an agreement, the time has come after years of discussion and if we do not find it we will have lost everyone," said Spanish Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska Gómez arriving at the council in Luxembourg. "The goal for us was to find a good balance between solidarity and responsibility and we are very close to that balance," he added.
"We are very close to the agreement, now there are no more valid reasons to take steps backwards." This was stated by Maria Malmer Stenergard, Minister of Migration of Sweden, arriving at the Home Affairs Council in Luxembourg. "I understand that there are very tough national discussions, but it is a balanced package and the right thing to do is to approve it," he stressed. (ANSA).
