"We have achieved a significant reduction in the gender gap in the company. An effort not made on the occasion of the latest appointments, in particular to the newspapers, where all men were chosen. A serious breach of the company's gender policies ratified by the board of directors a year ago". This was stated by the president of Rai, Marinella Soldi, in a hearing in the Supervisory Commission. "I would like to transfer to you a sense of urgency. The company, despite having closed the last balanced financial statements, faces a debt situation of 580 million euros in 2022. For a necessary renewal of the forms of financing, we need a credible and realistic business plan to be approved closely and strictly no later than 2023".
During the hearing, CEO Roberto Sergio assured that "the guiding criteria for the selection of top figures have been (and will be, for the appointments that will follow): competence and managerial capacity, balancing continuity and innovation. Therefore, valid professionals have been chosen, paying close attention to safeguarding, where relevant to the position, pluralism". And he added: "Rai must belong to everyone, under penalty of incompatibility with constitutional dictates and the loss of its universality - he added -. It follows that, on the one hand, it cannot exclude anyone and, on the other hand, it cannot be the prerogative of only a few".
