After a series of events around the world, Samsung will return home for the presentation of the new foldable smartphones. The official date is still missing but rumors all point to July 26 for the second Unpacked event of the year, the one normally dedicated to 'foldables'. The choice of Seoul goes beyond the mere motivation of Samsung's headquarters. In 2022, the Korean market saw a 13.6% adoption of foldable smartphones, the highest share globally. The Unpacked event, as confirmed by Samsung, will take place at the Coex center in Samseong-dong, Gangnam, an area known as "Tehran Valley" and home to a large number of internet-related companies.
For over a decade, starting with the first Unpacked in March 2010 in Las Vegas, Samsung has held Unpacked in key cities around the world, including New York, London, Berlin and Barcelona.
With the 27th Unpacked in Seoul, Samsung changes direction, to focus on several trendy cultural cities, closely linked to the theme of innovation. On a technical level, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and the Galaxy Z Flip 5 are expected at the conference. Few design changes for the former, more for the latter. In fact, the Flip model should house a larger external screen, similar to that of the Oppo Find N2 Flip, to allow a wider use of apps even when closed. For both, the adoption of the latest Snapdragon 8 Gn 2 platform is expected, as well as improvements in cameras and battery life.
