For four hours, dog groomer Megan Pearson is busy shearing a Tibetan mastiff. The TikTok community is speechless – for two reasons.
They are extremely good watchdogs, intelligent and lively. But above all, Tibetan mastiffs impress with their size and dense fur. With a shoulder height of up to 66 centimeters and a weight between 64 and 78 kilograms, they cannot be overlooked. An eye-catcher is their impressive fur, which is hard, dense and woolly and covers the shoulders like a lion's mane.

The special feature of the Tibetan Mastiff: Its dense coat is beautiful to look at when well-groomed. However, if grooming is neglected, exactly what Megan Pearson from Ontario shows in a TikTok video happens. You can see a Tibetan mastiff with completely matted fur, which may not have been groomed with a brush or scissors for over a year.
With the clip, Pearson wants to "raise awareness of why it's so important to meet pet care deadlines." She writes: "This is a very serious case that could have led to serious health problems for this sweet dog. It was a four-hour appointment. Luckily, she's doing much better now!" How much dogs can suffer from matted and unkempt fur is also shown by the story of dog Lucy, who also had to be helped by a dog groomer.

The video of dog groomer Pearson, who can be found on TikTok under "meganjaimee", shows how she gets to work and frees the from her lumps of fur piece by piece. At the end, the shorn four-legged friend can be seen and there is a huge pile full of fur on the floor. In the clip, the dog undergoes a real transformation thanks to Pearson. But it's not just the complete change of type that amazes the TikTok community. Many are shocked by the condition of the Tibetan Mastiff as it was before shearing.

I know how hard it is to keep up with the care, but the mats are so painful." Many hope that in the future the owners of the Tibetan Mastiff will take care of their four-legged friend more intensively and have the sheared regularly. A dog is so matted that even the rescuers can't even see the animal behind it.

In addition to the criticism, the community also expresses a lot of praise for Pearson: "Great job. I bet she feels much better." Because while other dog groomers rejected the Tibetan Mastiff, Pearson took care of her and simply had to help her. In the end, the owners explicitly pointed out the risks of such a bad condition and will send them a reminder for the next appointment, as she reveals to Newsweek.
