Dortmund – Green, nature, eco – that's in the black, isn't it? At least discounters are breaking new ground. After Lidl launched an organic private label on the market, competitor Aldi is now following suit and wants to conquer the shelves with the brand "Bio, das weiter geht". However, not all customers benefit, as RUHR24 knows.

Aldi like Lidl: New organic private label to conquer the shelves of the stores

According to a press release issued by the company on June 5, 2023, "15 mostly Naturland-certified products from different product groups are now on the shelves of the approximately 2,000 Aldi Süd stores". And the prospects for customers who prefer organic products are good (more news about supermarkets and discounters at RUHR24).

By 2024, up to 50 Naturland-certified products are expected to be in Aldi Süd stores. According to current information, Aldi Nord customers will not benefit from the new organic private label.

But which organic products will be on the shelves of Aldi Süd stores in the future?

  • Drinking milk
  • Hay Jewel Cheese
  • Fruit yoghurt – mango/peach-passion fruit
  • Spelt spaghetti
  • Natural yoghurt
  • Hay milk cheese slices (Emmental/mountain cheese)
  • Grated cheese (Emmental/mountain cheese)
  • Mountain farmers soft cheese
  • Wholemeal bread
  • Stone oven baguette
  • Bratwurst assortment (chicken/pork)
  • Lyonnais
  • Wiener
  • Ketchup
  • Whole grain rice

Competitor Lidl has been working with Bioland for five years, as the Lebensmittelzeitung (LZ) writes. The stores have a total of around 100 Bioland products on the shelves. Other supermarkets such as Rewe, Edeka or Kaufland also have cooperations with companies in the organic sector.

But there is one question that customers are likely to ask themselves about Aldi and organic products. Doesn't the discounter with "Gut Bio" and "Schneekoppe" already have organic products? Yes, but these initially only meet the "EU organic standard". With the "Only Only Nature" label, there is one more thing.

What does this mean for Aldi Süd customers? Conversely, according to the company, the additional label is an additional level of quality without "superfluous additives".

Aldi like Lidl: New organic private label probably has even more quality than the previous ones

The offensive in the area of organic products comes at the same time as frightening news on the subject of strawberries at Aldi and other supermarkets – apart from organic products, strawberries are contaminated with pesticides in numerous supermarkets.

After the Corona crisis and the inflationary year 2022, Aldi is hoping for a new boost in the organic segment, as LZ writes. So organic, nature and eco are in the black? At least market researchers believe that Aldi, Lidl and the other supermarkets will continue to increase their sales.
