Creative freedom is idealized. But great art often only emerges when the greatest floods of fantasy are directed in an orderly manner. As a rule, this also requires feedback or requirements from outside. "Kill your darlings" is what authors say when they cut back on their work. Stories that go nowhere should rather be deleted altogether - as nice as one or the other idea may be.
If the multi-award-winning soccer comedy "Ted Lasso" had heeded the rules of television better, its third season would probably have been less disappointing. Although we know: Ted (Jason Sudeikis) didn't even know the offside rule until recently. The fact that a lot has gone off the wall this time can already be seen from the fact that the total running time of the twelve episodes corresponds to just under 650 minutes (which is twice as much as the opening season).
