Injunction to thinness and miraculous foods

On his TikTok account are highlighted dietary supplements and a new method called Ultimate – The new Dukan diet: the power of the 3 fight foods: oat bran - konjac-okara (Ed. I read). With Le Parisien, Jean-Philippe Zermati, nutritionist doctor and co-author of Lies, Dukan diet and nonsense (Ed. Odile Jacob), does not hide his fear of this attractive marketing plan with the youngest users. "Perhaps many could be seduced. It was such a disaster the first time that indeed, it would be very serious to witness a new wave of his regime," he said.

The former nutritionist also multiplies publications touting miraculous foods to reduce his waist circumference or even the risk of cancer. "It presents products like konjac or oat bran as revolutionary, but it's been fifty years that it exists, that we know that it does not work," commented to the Parisian Dr. Jean-Philippe Zermati.

The self-proclaimed "Doc Duk" also makes several promises: "You want to lose weight now? Do you want to lose weight quickly and safely? Then follow me!" In most videos, we are close to the injunction to thinness. Thus, Pierre Dukan invites his subscribers to weigh themselves every day and women, in particular, not to gain weight "the 6 days before menstruation" to avoid cellulite. "I'm going to tell you what you need to know about diet to be able to control your weight, your beauty, your health, your self-esteem, your seduction... There is so much to gain," he announces in an introductory video.

From fame to controversy

If Pierre Dukan collects likes on TikTok, for several years, he is no longer unanimous among health professionals. And for good reason, his famous high-protein and low-calorie diet, popularized in the 2000s with celebrities such as Johnny Hallyday, François Hollande or Kate Middleton, did not go beyond his promises, quite the contrary. In May 2011, a survey of 5,000 people who had followed this diet, and carried out in partnership with the sites Santé-médecine and Journal des femmes, revealed that about 80% of them had regained their initial weight four years after the diet and that most had not managed to complete it. Some said they now suffer from transit problems, deficiencies or kidney complications, reports Le Parisien.

Having fallen into disuse with his readership, Pierre Dukan was finally struck off, at his request, from the Order of Physicians in 2014. He will even be sanctioned for, among other things, promoting his regime "for commercial purposes" and having lacked "caution" by proposing to mark young baccalaureate holders according to their weight.

Worry

Although he is no longer legally a doctor, he keeps the uniform on TikTok, displaying his white coat on his profile picture and calling himself "Doc" in his video pellets. On his description, Pierre Dukan displayed the title of "committed nutritionist doctor", before replacing it with "graduate of the University of Medicine of Paris", after being asked about it by the Parisian.

"With a position of doctor who is no longer but who does not say it, he gives credibility to his words with the general public, reacts by phone Dr. Claire Siret, president of the public health section of the National Council of the Order of Physicians. If it is proven and reported, not only does he make the illegal practice of medicine, legally sanctionable, but moreover, if he advocates remarks invalidated by science, we enter into a therapeutic drift. " At this time, no written report has been communicated to the institution.
