ROME - Photographer, designer, sculptor, traveler and even singer: the eclectic talent of Gina Lollobrigida, one of the greatest actresses in the history of Italian and international cinema, is dedicated to the exhibition 'I mondi di Gina', conceived and curated by Lucia Borgonzoni, undersecretary for Culture, and Chiara Sbarigia, president of Cinecittà.
The exhibition, set up at Palazzo Poli Istituto Centrale per la grafica from 9 June to 8 October, collects over 120 images, two dresses and two stage costumes that tell the life and the many artistic faces of the unforgettable Gina Lollobrigida. "We want to pay tribute to all the 'worlds' of Gina - explains Lucia Borgonzoni - not only the actress, therefore, but also the photographer, the sculptor, the traveler. She was a symbol of female emancipation and resourcefulness, a woman who through art has been able to reinvent herself by giving herself new lives, which have allowed her to express herself in the round becoming an international star. In short, a feminist ante litteram". "I would like to be remembered above all as an artist and, why not, also as an actress"; this was Lollo's thought and it is precisely this great and versatile creativity that the Palazzo Poli exhibition wants to pay homage. "Her proud and eclectic personality makes her an exemplary figure precisely in the literal sense of the word, that is, worthy of being taken as an example - says Chiara Sbarigia - because Gina was first and foremost a contemporary woman, with a thousand facets and inexhaustible creativity, who already at the height of her success in the sixties, resumed her artistic vein and turned to photography, receiving many awards and honors. But at the bottom of the different artistic expressions that she cultivated, there were common traits that recognized all those who had the honor and fortune to know her, character traits that she kept until the end, that is, an infinite curiosity and a great enthusiasm ". The life, meetings and career of the 'eternal diva' are in the images from 47 different sources: the Luce-Cinecittà Archive, the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia, the MuFoCo - Museum of Contemporary Photography - and other archives.
