Especially in autumn, house angle spiders are increasingly drawn to houses and apartments. People with a fear of spiders should take certain precautions.

Again and again, spiders provide real shock moments. Warnings from experts about the spread of the Nosferatu spider in Germany do not help to calm the situation, as echo24.de has reported. And the fact that the house angle spider is on the rise again, especially from September and October, also makes many people uncomfortable. But how can you keep the eight-legged crawlers off your neck?

Especially in autumn, as soon as it gets colder, the house angle spider, not to be confused with the Nosferatu spider, likes to look for dark, humid and warm places. It is therefore also known as the cellar spider and house spider. Even now, the animal, which belongs to the genus of Tegenaria spiders, is increasingly found in apartments. The current weather is to blame for this.

This is how house angle spider gets into the house or apartment

According to the portal haus.de, the house angle spider is particularly good at coming into the apartments via open windows and doors, the gap under the front door, cracks in the masonry, ventilation openings or with objects that are brought into the house. Garden chairs and firewood or shopping baskets are perfect options for the spiders.

After all, the experts reject a myth about the house angle spiders: It definitely does not get into the house via sewer pipes. And, even though it is Germany's largest spider species, it is harmless.

Use these tricks to keep the house angle spider out of the apartment

Basically, you should make sure that the house angle spider is not killed in all measures. According to the Baden-Württemberg Nature and Biodiversity Conservation Association, it is important for the ecosystem. They eat mosquitoes and other insects. The experts therefore always have a big request: to put the spider outside with a sheet of paper and a glass. But then at least 50 meters away from the house only expose again. Or just act preventively.

A popular home remedy for the house angle spider and spiders in general is lavender. The plant provides a natural aroma barrier on doors and windows. Lavender can also help against wasps. Since one of the main retreats of the house angle spider is located in inaccessible corners, it is always worthwhile to clean there a little more thoroughly and frequently. And after all, the house angle spider is not the noble ball spider. Their bite is extremely dangerous. Since 2017, it has gradually arrived in Germany and can also be found in corners and niches - but much rarer than the harmless house angle spider.
