Tightening on suspensions and voting in conduct: the government tightens the penalties for those who do not behave well in the classroom, using the vote as a tool against violence that in recent years mainly affects teachers but also the students themselves in Italian schools. The Council of Ministers approved the bill for the revision of the evaluation of student behavior and the reform of the establishment of the technological-professional training chain.
As for the mark in conduct, this also comes to middle school, will be expressed in tenths and will have weight on the credits for admission to the maturity exam. The current legislation provides that the rejection, following the 5 for the conduct, is implemented only in the presence of serious acts of violence or commission of crimes. With the reform it is established instead that the assignment of the 5, and therefore of the consequent rejection, can also take place in the face of behaviors that constitute serious and repeated violations of the Institute Regulations. The 6 for the conduct will generate a school debt, in the high school in the field of civic education, which must be recovered in September with a verification that will have at the center the values of citizenship. Only those who take 9 or 10 in conduct will be entitled to the maximum of the credits that average in the final grade for maturity.
The suspension, understood as a simple removal from the school, instead there will be no more: the suspended student will be involved in school activities - assigned by the class council - of reflection and in-depth study on issues related to the behaviors that caused the measure. A path that will end with the production of a paper on what has been learned. If the suspension exceeds 2 days, the student must carry out solidarity citizenship activities at affiliated facilities. "With the reform of the conduct vote and the suspension we bring back the culture of respect in schools, and strengthen the authority of teachers. It is a turning point much awaited by Italian society", commented Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in the Council of Ministers.

As for the reform of technical and professional institutes, the goal is to start, from 2024/25, a large-scale experimentation of the 4+2 model, four-year courses plus two additional years in the Its Academy. An "on-the-job" methodology will be used, with a massive use of practical training. A new aspect is the concept of "technological-professional campus", which will involve technical and professional institutes in a unique and integrated path. This involves the entry of teachers and experts from the world of work. "Today technical and professional education finally becomes a series A channel, able to guarantee students a training that enhances the talents and potential of each one and is expendable in the world of work, guaranteeing competitiveness to our production system", said the Minister of Education and Merit Giuseppe Valditara.
