The Oktoberfest in Munich has just started and if you are not yet in the Oktoberfest mood, you should read on now. Because the delicious finger food recipe combines Bavarian delicacies and puts a smile on everyone's face while enjoying it. They are hearty, crispy and simply irresistible: sauerkraut and spicy bratwurst meat, combine with a breading of salted pretzels to create an absolute marquee hit!

For most people, bratwurst belongs either on the grill or in a roll. Far too bad, you can conjure up creative dishes such as a bratwurst salad or a hearty bratwurst goulash. Or just small appetizers that are the perfect finger food at an Oktoberfest theme party, promised!

For sauerkraut bratwurst balls with dip you need these ingredients:

  • Sweet mustard dip:
  • 80 g sweet mustard
  • 150 g crème fraîche
  • 0.25 tsp salt
  • 0.25 tsp pepper
  • 4 g chives, cut into rolls
  • Sauerkraut bratwurst balls:
  • 200 g sauerkraut, drained
  • 500 g bratwurst, coarse and unscalded
  • 1 egg
  • 70 g breadcrumbs
  • 0.5 tsp pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 800 ml of vegetable oil
  • Breading:
  • 150 g salted pretzels
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 150 g of flour

The preparation is simple:

  • For the dip: Mix crème fraîche, sweet mustard, salt, pepper and chives. Set aside.
  • For the sauerkraut bratwurst balls: Squeeze the sausages and put the sausage meat in a bowl along with sauerkraut, breadcrumbs, egg, salt and pepper. Mix everything thoroughly and form balls from the mass.
  • For breading: Grind salted pretzels into fine crumbs. Turn each ball first in flour, then in the beaten egg and finally in the crumbled salted pretzels.
  • Heat the frying oil in a high saucepan andfry the sauerkraut bratwurst balls in it for five minutes until golden brown all over. Remove and drain on kitchen paper.
  • Serve with sweet mustard dip.
  • Dig in!
