"I miss you every day": Carla Bruni-Sarkozy pays tribute to her deceased brother

She was, for years, the only one of her clan to carry this heavy secret. Carla Bruni-Sarkozy had indeed discovered that her half-brother Virginio Bruni-Tedeschi was suffering from AIDS. A disease to which he succumbed in 2006. Three years later, she evoked this secret on France Culture. "He got HIV very, very early," she said at the time. For some reason that still escapes me today, he only told me in the whole family. So we spent many long years where I was the only one who knew he had this disease, which was like a grim reaper at that time."

She celebrated on her Instagram account on Wednesday, September 20, what would have been the 63rd birthday of her half-brother. A message embellished with two vintage shots: a sepia portrait of Virginio, with semi-long hair and translucent eyes, as well as a black and white photograph, on which both appear shirtless, the chest of Carla Bruni-Sarkozy being blurred. A post already "liked" by more than 19,600 people. In 2008, the artist dedicated a song, Salut Marin, to this missing brother. That same year, she was appointed ambassador for the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.
