Lucia Palermo, the doctor unjustly excluded from a competition although already cured of cancer, was received by Ugo Cappellacci, president of the Social Affairs Commission in the Chamber. "I wanted to meet Lucia, - said the deputy of Forza Italia - not only to express a feeling of closeness, but to tell her that her battle is also ours. We have approved the law on oncological forgetting, which is a first step towards ending the discrimination suffered by those who have experienced cancer on their shoulders".
Two years after being cured of cancer, the girl from Caserta had participated in a competition for psychologist in the Guardia di Finanza, but found herself excluded because of a decree that equates those who survive breast cancer with those who are still sick. Fortunately, Lucia did not give up and launched a petition on Change.org that collected more than 53,000 signatures against what she called "an exclusion for excessive bureaucracy".
"Your experience - says Cappellacci - says that we can and must do even more and I believe that it is right and proper already in the last parliamentary passages and in the government acts that will follow to give an answer to you and to the many people who live the same situation". The message for Lucia, he concludes, is: "You are not alone. We are on your side and I am sure that, thanks also to your courage, we will win this battle together".
