For the dough:

  • 3 eggs
  • 130 g of sugar

  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 130 g of flour
  • 1 sachet of baking powder
  • 50 g soft butter

For the glaze:

  • 200 g fondant
  • 40 ml of water
  • 200 g chocolate couverture (dark chocolate)

You'll also need a springform pan and a saw knife.

Preparation: Step-by-step instructions for an original men's cake

  • Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius top/bottom heat (convection oven 160 degrees Celsius) and cover a springform pan with baking paper.
  • Beat the eggs, sugar, vanilla sugar and salt over a hot water bath until creamy and fold in the flour and baking powder. Also add the softened butter. Pour the cake batter into the springform pan, smooth it out and bake the cake base in a preheated oven for about three quarters of an hour.
  • Then let the cake base cool, take it out of the springform pan and cut it with the saw knife into six cake layers of equal thickness.
  • For the cake filling, mix the marzipan and dry white wine until creamy. Spread the cream on one cake layer, place the second on top and spread it with the marzipan wine cream as well. Repeat this process with all cake layers.
  • For the chocolate icing, heat the fondant, water and chocolate couverture on the hotplate while stirring. Before spreading the icing over the men's cake, let it cool down a bit, but it should still be liquid. Place the pie in the fridge overnight to set.
