Calcified shower? It doesn't have to be that way. A cleaning agent from the kitchen can help in no time.

Kassel – Limescale stains in the bathroom, and especially in the shower, are a thorn in the side of many. Just now the shower room was still squeaky clean, but after a round of showering there is not much to see of it. Especially in regions with a high lime content in tap water, stains are inevitable. But there is a simple home remedy trick that helps quickly and, above all, simply in such cases.

Lime stains in the shower: With a trick it becomes squeaky clean again

The best thing about the tip is that you don't have to rely on expensive bathroom cleaners – especially since many cleaning products are not absolutely necessary. This is because many chemical cleaners are very easy to replace. So instead of buying a new cleaning agent, a look at the kitchen is often enough.

This is where the rinse aid is located in many households. Far too often, this is only used in the dishwasher, but rinse aid is a real all-rounder. And the procedure is child's play, as the household journal, among others, describes:

  • First of all, clean the shower stall thoroughly, vinegar is recommended here to remove stubborn stains
  • Then apply the rinse aid to the surface and leave it on for a short time
  • Then wash off with cold water
  • Long-term removal of limescale in the shower through the lotus effect: This is how the rinse aid trick works

But how does rinse aid manage to banish limescale from the shower in the long term? This is thanks to the so-called lotus effect. As with a lotus plant, water and dirt particles can hardly be retained on a surface treated with rinse aid. The water rolls off the surface much more easily and simply takes the dirt with it.

Science has been dealing with this phenomenon since the 1970s. At that time, researcher Wilhelm Barthlott examined lotus leaves under an electron microscope for the first time, reports the Max Planck Society in its magazine "Focus: Cognitive Sciences".
