Spoiled watermelons can explode. A Kaufland customer experienced this first-hand. On the net, her report caused quite a stir.
Berlin – Especially with the high food prices, shopping in the supermarket or discounter is currently frustrating for many customers and is the least fun. Again and again, disgruntled customers complain on social networks such as Facebook and Twitter. Supermarkets such as Kaufland, Rewe or Edeka as well as discounters such as Lidl, Netto and Co. are repeatedly targeted.
For example, a Rewe customer was looking forward to an offer and is severely disappointed. A Kaufland customer, on the other hand, encounters a disgusting surprise when opening a package of cheese. Now the supermarket chain has overstretched the patience thread of a customer – and not only her collar burst.

Kaufland customer after melon explosion: "Think about something now!"
The customer bought a yellow watermelon and a few days later she experienced an unpleasant surprise: The 6.93 euro melon exploded and caused a mess in the kitchen at home – apparently this was not the first time this had happened. And again. And again. For the FOURTH!! Once a melon from Kaufland exploded for us! But this time, the kitchen resembles a stinking pigsty," writes the person concerned on Facebook and posts several photos of the melon and the kitchen floor.
"Bought on Saturday, but PÄNG on Tuesday!! THANK YOU KAUFLAND! My manpower for tidying up is worth more than the almost 7 euros". Think about something now!!", she continues.
Kaufland reacts to melon post – users are shocked by explosion
The supermarket chain responded promptly and apologized for the spoiled product. The feedback would be forwarded to customer management. Other users also commented on the post: "It really peppered into it. Old Swede, she exploded. If it weren't so sad that you bought something like that, I would almost find it funny," writes one user. Another user can't find any words other than "crass".
Spoiled food in supermarkets or discounters can happen again and again. If products are not flawless, they should be complained about directly in the store, according to the consumer advice center. If the spoiled product is only discovered at home, the receipt is an important piece of evidence. Therefore, they should not be disposed of too hastily. If food consumed causes discomfort, nausea or vomiting, this should be reported immediately to the competent food control authority.
That's why watermelons can explode
Watermelons are the perfect summer snack and provide the ideal refreshment. When shopping, you can recognize the perfect watermelon by certain characteristics. But under certain circumstances, they can foam and even explode.
When watermelons become overripe or are exposed to the sun for a long time, increased pressure can build up inside the fruit. According to the portal myhomebook.de, consumers should therefore pay attention to whether there are any fine cracks on the shell when buying. These can therefore be an indication that the pulp is expanding. However, according to the portal, the following things reveal whether the melon is still good:
- A putrid smell undoubtedly indicates a spoiled fruit.
- If a melon smells sour or tart, it is better to keep your hands off.
- Fine cracks in the pulp around the seeds may indicate that the growth has been influenced by chemical agents.
You should not throw away the skins of the watermelon - parts of them receive a lot of good for the body. (Vivian Werg)
