For new flowers and seeds, garden enthusiasts do not have to go to the garden market. To get new greenery for your garden or balcony, all you need is some time and preparation. New fruit shrubs, hedges and perennials, for example, can be easily grown from the existing stock. Hedges and fruit trees are therefore simply grown from sticks. To do this, amateur gardeners need to cut off a branch without leaves of the old plants and simply stick it into the ground. When the first leaves sprout, this is also a sign that the branch is taking root in the ground. The same can be done with perennials. To do this, simply cut off a small piece of root and plant it elsewhere.

You can also save on many other plants. Especially in the vegetable patch, you can easily increase the existing stock. Varieties such as tomatoes, marigolds and chives have many seeds that are suitable for their own plant propagation. According to the consumer magazine Öko-Test, however, hobby gardeners should make sure that the varieties are pure seed. Thus, hybrid breeding can lead to unwanted changes in the offspring.
Helpful tips: Save water and fertilizer in the garden
Water is probably the most important resource in your own garden. However, so that watering the vegetable or flower bed does not go too quickly into the wallet, every garden and balcony should have a rain barrel. This allows rainwater to be collected and, if necessary, used for watering.

In order to provide the plants with suitable soil, many gardening enthusiasts resort to mulch. This protects the soil from drying out and provides protection. If you buy the mulch again, you waste unnecessary money. After all, the mulch can simply be made from plant material yourself. To do this, simply spread the compost or chopped leaves in the bed. Another advantage: healthy plant residues from the garden can also be used as fertilizer.
