First immediate take-off order for the F-35 of the Italian Air Force engaged in the mission in Poland - which ensures the security of the airspace of NATO countries - after the interception of Russian aircraft. The episode took place on the afternoon of September 21, when a pair of F35A fighters of the 32° Wing task force air, redeployed to the Malbork air base, took to the skies for an 'alpha scramble' in order to intercept two unidentified aircraft, as learned coming from Russia and penetrated NATO airspace, then escorted out of the same airspace.
The scramble was ordered by UEDEM's air operations center in Germany, the NATO control body that has the task of checking and monitoring all radar tracks for suspicious aircraft approaching or attempting to enter NATO airspace without the necessary authorizations.
