Urgent dessert recall: Here's what you need to know about salmonella
Recalls due to the risk of salmonella are not uncommon. That is precisely why it is important to know what signs to look out for. In the case of an infection with salmonella that is ingested orally, it is also referred to as salmonellosis, explains the Robert Koch Institute (RKI). The incubation period, i.e. the period from first contact with the pathogen to the time when symptoms appear, can vary. It is therefore between six and 72 hours. As a rule, however, according to the RKI, 12 to 36 hours.
A salmonella infection can manifest itself through various symptoms, usually manifested by acute intestinal inflammation. Especially in the elderly and young children, the signs can be much more pronounced and dangerous dehydration can occur. According to the RKI, these symptoms are possible:
- Sudden onset of diarrhea
- Headache and stomach ache
- Discomfort and sometimes vomiting
- Mild fever often occurs.

Candy recall due to salmonella danger: What consumers can do now
In its press release, the manufacturer emphasizes that the "goods on the market were immediately withdrawn from sale in the sense of precautionary consumer protection". Customers can also return the items to the place of purchase without a receipt and receive a refund of the purchase price. By the way, there are also recalls again and again because of listeria, most recently, for example, in Edeka stores throughout Germany. (slo)
