To demonstrate that the cultivation of sea salt is also an agricultural activity: it was born today in Rome, with this spirit and with an appeal for support to the sector by the Government, the coordination between Italian agricultural entrepreneurs and sea salt production with a signing of understanding that took place at Palazzo della Valle and signed by Confagricoltura and the management companies of the Saline dimare.
The agreement, shared, as well as by the agricultural organization, by Atisale Spa (salt pans of Margherita di Savoia-Puglia 4,500 hectares in production and Sant'Antioco -Sardinia), Saline Ing. Luigi ContiVecchi (Santa Gilla Lagoon a stone's throw from Cagliari, with almost 2,800 hectares in production). Sosalt Spa (salt pans in the coastal strip between Trapani and Marsala, about 1,000 hectares in production), Parco della Salina di Cervia (over 800 hectares of extension), Isola Longa (sea salt pan of Trapani with a production of over 23,000 tons of salt every year), is supported by the salt pans of Trapani Oro di Sicilia, Ettore and Infersa and Isola di Calcara.
Currently in Italy the production of sea salt corresponds to just under 30% of total production: on average almost 1.2 million tons / year out of a total of over 4 million tons. The objectives of the project of the newborn coordination - "is to demonstrate that the cultivation of sea salt is also an agricultural activity" in order to give "recognition to a sector that operates in the protection of the territory, the environment and the ecosystem". The agreement also provides for the implementation of initiatives in the territories of the salt pans and enhancement activities. The project will culminate with the General States of Italian saliculture next year. "My willingness and that of the Government - said the Undersecretary of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forests PatrizioGiacomo La Pietra speaking at the presentation of the coordination - to start a path for this sector that I consider very significant". "We will commit ourselves - commented the president of Confagricoltura Massimiliano Giansanti - for a sector that has an economic-environmental importance and has millennia of history. We can start building a project for the sector and for this I would ask for the help of politics".
